Academic Services to Society to Promote Aging in Place of the Elderly

With the increasing aging population in Thailand, it is necessary to promote the health of the elderly so that they remain healthy. From the 2nd World Assembly on Aging Meeting in Madrid, Spain in 2002, the concept was announced “Aging in place” as a guideline to promote the quality of life of the elderly. including Thailand, which is designated as a national strategy by coordinating between the public sector, the private sector, and the people.
The College of Nursing, Christian University of Thailand is an educational institution that manages teaching in the field of nursing science which offers courses in elderly nursing. The instructors of the adult and elderly nursing department consider it necessary to carry out the four missions which includes teaching, research, academic services to society, and the preservation of arts and culture. The academic staff should implement the academic services to the society “Promoting Aging in Place” for the elderly who reside close to the vicinity of the university. Thus, an academic service project "Physical and mental health screening for the elderly against the COVID-19" has been organized to assess the health status of the elderly in Don Yai Hom sub-district, Mueang Nakhon Pathom District, Nakhon Pathom Province, and that will provide information to promote the “Aging in place”.
