Types of articles
A research article is a scholarly manuscript that presents the results of a systematic investigation conducted using clearly defined research methodologies. It involves the collection, analysis, and interpretation of data to generate new knowledge or to validate, refine, or challenge existing theories and practices. Research articles are characterized by a well-defined research problem or question, methodological rigor, evidence-based findings, and critical discussion that situates the results within the broader academic and professional context.

An academic article is a scholarly work that synthesizes, analyzes, and interprets existing knowledge, theories, or practices within a specific discipline. Unlike research articles, academic articles do not necessarily report new empirical findings but instead provide critical insights, conceptual frameworks, or theoretical discussions supported by credible sources. They aim to advance understanding, foster scholarly debate, and offer practical or theoretical implications for the field. Academic articles are distinguished by their analytical depth, logical reasoning, and adherence to academic standards of citation and evidence.

A nursing case study article is a scholarly paper that documents and analyzes a real-life clinical situation involving an individual patient, family, or group within the context of nursing practice. It emphasizes the application of the nursing process—assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation—while integrating theoretical knowledge and professional judgment. Case study articles highlight the rationale behind nursing decisions, ethical considerations, and lessons learned, offering insights that can inform practice, education, and future research. They are distinguished by their focus on contextualized patient care, reflective analysis, and contributions to evidence-based nursing practice.
