Relationship between Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice in Rights Protection of Foreign Worker Patients in Critical Care among Professional Nurses in Samut Sakhon Hospital

Purpose: To 1) study the level of knowledge, attitudes, and practices in rights protection of foreign worker patients in critical care and 2) to study the relationship between knowledge, attitudes, and practices in rights protection of foreign worker patients in critical care of professional nurses in the intensive care unit of Samut Sakhon Hospital.
Design: Descriptive research.
Method: The sample was 37 professional nurses working in an intensive care unit. The research instruments for data collection included questionnaires on 1) knowledge, 2) attitudes, and 3) practices in rights protection of foreign worker patients. The content validity of the questionnaire on knowledge, attitudes and practices in rights protection were 1.0, 1.0 and 1.0, and the reliability indices were 0.71, 0.72, and 0.70, respectively. Data were analyzed by Pearson’ Product Moment Correlation Coefficient.
Main findings: According to rights protection of foreign worker patients, it was found that the sample’s knowledge on rights protection of foreign worker patients was at a high level (75.70 %); attitude was at a high level (89.20 %); and practices in rights protection of foreign worker patients were at a high level (94.60 %). The attitude had a high positive correlation with practices in rights protection of foreign worker patients with statistical significance (r=.566**, p<.01).
Conclusion and recommendations: Encouraging nurses to gain a positive attitude towards taking care of patients without discrimination will lead to proper and appropriate action to protect the rights of foreign worker patients.
