A Study of the Components of a Risk Management Model in Professional Practice of Nursing Students, College of Nursing, Christian University of Thailand: A Case Study of Ratchaburi Hospital

Purpose : To study and analyze the components of a risk management model in professional practice of nursing students : A case study of Ratchaburi hospital.
Design : Descriptive Research.
Method: The samples of the study were professional nurses of Ratchaburi Hospital who work in various departments, including the intensive care unit, internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and orthopedics The sample consisted of 259 people with at least one year of work experience. The data collection tool was a questionnaire on risk management in professional practice of nursing students with 6 components, with a content validity of 0.93. The reliability of the questionnaire was 0.94 of Cronbach's alpha coefficient. The statistics used in data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation. and Exploratory Factor Analysis.
Main findings: The risk management model for professional practice of nursing students from the College of Nursing (CON) of Christian University of Thailand, after the test in the sample group included 4 components arranged in order of component weight descending as follows: 1) Promoting outcome measurement systems, controlling, supervising and auditing risk management systems and reporting of incidences and adverse events; 2) Promoting teachers, supervising teacher, and students to have knowledge and understandings, motivation and skills in terms of nursing quality and safety; 3) Building cooperation among teachers, supervisors, nursing students, relatives and patients with educational organizations and public health service units; and 4) knowledge on infection prevention and spread.
Conclusion and recommendations: Administrators of CON should focus on preparing students to cover all 4 areas to reduce the adverse events that may occur during the professional practice of nursing students.
