Abstract

Purpose:This study aimed to examine the predictors of resilience among older adults participating in senior clubs, based on Grotberg’s resilience framework consisting of External supports (I HAVE), Internal personal attributes (I AM), and Skills and  abilities (I CAN).

Design:  A cross-sectional design was employed.

Method: The sample consisted of 129 older adults who were members of senior clubs in Kanchanaburi Province and were selected using multistage random sampling. Research instruments included a demographic questionnaire; the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale CD-RISC 10 items) with a reliability coefficient of .77; and a predictor scale reflecting the I HAVE - I AM - I CAN framework with a reliability coefficient of .92. Data were collected through self-administered questionnaires and analyzed using descriptive statistics preliminary assumption testing, and standard multiple regression analysis.

Main findings: The participants had a moderately high level of resilience (Mean=32.9, SD=4.60). The multiple regression model showed that the three components collectively predicted 38.50% of the variance in resilience (R2=.385, p<.001). Among the predictors, I CAN had the strongest influence (β=.43, p<.001), followed by I HAVE (β=.27, p<.001). The I AM component was not a statistically significant predictor (p=.880).

Conclusion and recommendations:The findings highlight the importance of enhancing practical coping and emotional management skills, as well as strengthening social support through senior club activities, to improve resilience among older adults. Future research should employ experimental designs to evaluate the effectiveness of resilience promoting programs.
