Factors related with Smoking Cessation Campaign among First Year Male Students in the Private Higher Education Institution

This survey research aimed to study 1) the level of knowledge, attitudes, smoking and non-smoking habits 2) the relationship between personal data, knowledge, attitudes and smoking habits towards smoking cessation campaign among first year male students in the private higher education institution. The 259 samples were selected using Stratified Random Sampling. The research tool consisted of a reliable and valid. Descriptive statistics such as mean, percentage, standard deviation and Chi-square test was used to analyze the relationship.
The results showed that; 1) Knowledge about the dangers and harms of smoking at a moderate level, Attitudes to smoking at the level agreed. 2) Knowledge and attitude towards smoking were not significantly related to smoking habits (p > .05). Smoking habits, having family or close people who have alcohol consumptions were statistically significant in relation to smoking cessation campaign in educational institutions (p < .05) and 70.2 percent of the samples supported smoking cessation campaign, but age, faculty, income received from parents per month, residential style, having family or close people who smoked, and knowledge towards smoking were not significantly related to smoking cessation campaign in educational institutions (p > .05)
