Incidence Rate and Factors Associated with Orthopedic Complications in Patients with Open Fractures Undergoing Internal Fixation Surgery

Abstract

      The objective of the research was to study the incidence rate and factors associated with orthopedic complications in patients with open fractures. This is a cross-sectional analytical study. (Cross-Sectional Analytical Study) by studying retrospective data. (Retrospective Study) between 2018 - 2022. The sample group is patients with open fractures. and receive treatment In Phon Thong Hospital Roi Et Province, a total of 253 people. The research instrument was a data copy form from medical records, including gender, age, body mass index, congenital diseases, smoking, and mechanism of injury. Injury location Severity level Surgery waiting time Surgery time Length of hospital stay Receiving antibiotics and developing orthopedic complications Analyze data with descriptive statistics and Multiple logistic regression Adjusted odds ratio at a significance level of 0.05.

      The results of the research found that the incidence rate of orthopedic complications in 19 patients was 7.59%. Factors related to the occurrence of orthopedic complications in patients with open fractures were the degree of Severe according to Gustison and Anderson, it is associated with orthopedic complications in patients with open fractures. Statistically significant (OR adj = 3.66, 95 % CI =1.20 – 11.19, P-value < 0.05)
