The development of a community participatory care model for the dependent elderly Wang Somboon District Sa Kaeo Province.

Abstract

     This research was participatory action research data analyzed by mixed-method approach. The objectives are to study the context and problems of caring for the elderly with dependent conditions in a community in Wang Sombun District, Sa Kaeo Province, to develop a model for caring for the elderly with dependent conditions in a community in Wang Sombun District, Sa Kaeo Province, and to study the results of the model for caring for the elderly with dependent conditions in a community in Wang Sombun District, Sa Kaeo Province. The sample group used in this study was 274 people, which were determined by calculating the proportions from the Krejci and Morgan tables and selected purposively. They consisted of 1) families of the elderly with dependent conditions, 2) community leaders, 3) local government organization heads, 4) public health personnel working in sub-district health promotion hospitals under the Wang Sombun District Public Health Office, 5) CM, 6) CG, and 7) village public health volunteers. The research instruments were 1) interview forms, 2) questionnaires, 3) observation forms, and 4) a guideline for summarizing lessons learned. Data were analyzed using percentages, means, and standard deviations. A comparative analysis was performed on the differences in scores of the ability to perform daily activities.      The research results found that 1) after the implementation of the model, families of dependent elderly, community leaders, local government organization presidents, public health personnel working in sub-district health promotion hospitals under the Wang Sombun District Public Health Office, CM CG, and village health volunteers had a high level of participation in caring for dependent elderly. 2) after the implementation of the model, the scores of the ability to perform daily activities, Barthel ADL (ADL) index of dependent elderly were significantly higher than before the implementation of the model at the 0.05 level.
