A model for mental health promoting of the elderly at the level of a complete aging society, Rattana Buri District, Surin Province.

Action research aimed to develop a mental health promotion model and the results of using the mental health promotion model for the elderly in a complete aging society community in Rattanaburi District, Surin Province, based on the concept of Kemmis and McTaggart. Two purposive sample groups were selected; 1) 12 persons were expert in developing a model for promoting mental health and 2)100 elderly for model trial. All of them were performing the workshop process at Kut Kha Keem Subdistrict Health Promoting Hospital, Rattana Buri District, Surin Province, between August – December 2024. Quantitative and qualitative data were collected from interviews and group discussions.
The results of the study found that the developed model consisted of 4 steps of mental health promotion in the elderly: 1) regular physical and mental health care with family personnel, 2) building morale among the elderly, 3) participation in traditional activities, and 4) creating value and dignity for the elderly. After using the elderly mental health promotion model of the elderly at the level of a complete aging society, it was found that the mean difference of elderly mental health promotion increased, and the assessment of anxiety and depression decreased significantly (p-value<0.05). The elderly had a high level of opinion on the overall health promotion model for the elderly and the screening of mental health of the elderly showed that 93% of the elderly were not depressed and 71% were slightly anxious.
