Nursing Care for a Patient Pelvic Inflammatory Disease with Abdominal Drainage with Shock : A Case Study.

This study aimed to study the nursing care of a Patient Pelvic Inflammatory Disease with Abdominal Drainage with Shock. The patient was a 47-year-old Thai woman with underlying of diabetes mellitus and hypertension. She was admitted to the hospital on February 15, 2024, with lower abdominal pain that had started one day prior to admission. An ultrasound revealed an endometriotic cyst with a differential diagnosis of ovarian cancer.
Results: A subsequent CT scan showed a complex cystic lesion surrounding the uterus, which was suspected to be a tubo-ovarian abscess (TOA) or an abscess collection. The medical team diagnosed a tubo-ovarian abscess, and the patient underwent exploratory laparotomy with lysis of adhesions and pus drainage on February 23, 2024. Prior to surgery, the patient developed shock, requiring high-flow oxygen and intensive management to stabilize her condition. Postoperatively, the surgical wound became infected and was treated with antibiotics and wound care. The infection was successfully controlled, and the wound was sutured without recurrence of infection. The patient was discharged home on March 9, 2024, after a total hospital stay of 22 days.
