Abstract

This quasi-experimental study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a blood pressure control promotion program among patients with hypertension at Sadao Health Promoting Hospital, Buachet District, Surin Province. The study sample consisted of 102 participants, divided equally into experimental and comparison groups (51 participants per group). The experimental group comprised hypertensive patients from Sadao Health Promoting Hospital, while the comparison group included patients from San Health Promoting Hospital. The experimental group participated in a 12-week program consisting of workshops, skill training, home visits, and telephone follow-ups, whereas the comparison group received standard care. Research instruments included questionnaires on knowledge and health perception, a self-care skill assessment, and blood pressure recording forms. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, and independent t-test.

The results revealed that (1) after the intervention, the experimental group’s mean knowledge score increased from 5.1±1.0 to 8.2±1.1 (p<0.001), with significant improvements in health perception and self-care skills (p<0.001); (2) the mean systolic blood pressure decreased from 152.1±7.2 to 138.4±6.8 mmHg, and diastolic pressure decreased from 92.3±5.1 to 85.2±4.3 mmHg (p<0.001); and (3) 68.6% of patients in the experimental group achieved target blood pressure control compared with 35.3% in the comparison group (p=0.001). Between-group comparisons showed that the experimental group achieved significantly better outcomes in all variables (p<0.001).
