Developing of health education process for patients with chronic kidney disease stage 1-3 and caregivers to prevent end stage renal disease at Nakae Hospital, Nakhon Phanom

This action research were to develop and study the effects of health education
process for patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) stage 1-3 and caregivers to prevent
end stage renal disease (ESRD). One sample pre-posttest design was applied for the study.
There were 30 patients with CKD stage 1-3 and 30 caregivers. The instruments consisted of 2
parts including; 1) the questionnaires for collecting data included general questionnaires and
health behaviors of patients and caregivers, and 2) a research program included the health
education process for patients and caregivers. Descriptive statistics; frequency, percentage,
mean and standard deviation, were used for general data analysis. Comparing health
behaviors of patients and caregiver pre-posttest study by using dependent t-test. Mean was
used to analyze serum creatinine/eGFR during pretest, ongoing processs, and posttest.
The research result revealed that the knowledge of patients and caregivers after
attending health education process increased significantly at the level of .05. Health
behaviors of patients and caregivers; nutrition, exercise, treatment and medication taking,
also increased significantly at the level of .05. In addition, the serum creatinine/eGFR before
obtaining program, ongoing process, and complete program were 1.21/48.3, 1.14/51.4, and
1.07/55.8 respectively.
