The Phenomenon of Attempt to commit Suicide in Sriprachan District A Case study of the people who Attempted Suicide in Sriprachan District Suphanburi Province

Abstract

     The objectives of this research are to study the phenomenon of suicide attempt of Sriprachan Distract people and to further use the result of the study to create surveillance and prevention plan for suicide attempt in an appropriate area. This descriptive research was conducted by collecting data from suicide risk surveillance report dating back 5 years (from 2015 to 2019) together with consulting academic documents, articles, theses and related researches.

     The result of the study reveals that out of 191 samples who have history of suicide attempt, 33 of which successfully committed suicide (17.4%). In addition, males have a greater tendency to successfully commit suicide than females and drug overdosing is a self-harming means used most by 74 samples (18.7%). The analytical result of multiple linear regression from 17 independent variables demonstrates the variation of phenomenon of suicide attempt in Sriprachan District at 19.8 percents. By considering independent variables, the variables having most potential to predict the changes of phenomenon of suicide attempt in Sriprachan District are feeling disappointed, feeling neglected, being drunk while self harming, being poor or in debt, being unemployed, stress, being gossiped, arguing with closed people, not being taken care of, mental disorder or depression, alcohol use problems, suffering from illness, losing loved ones, using addictive drugs, attention need, workplace relationship problems and problems resulting from
illness, respectively.

     In conclusion, the mentioned causes and factors influence the phenomenon of suicide attempt in Sriprachan District at statistical significance of 0.01.
