Abstract

This correlational research aimed to study: 1) the level of medication adherence among patients with type 2 diabetes, and 2) the relationships between age, education, community status, accessible information and technology, comorbidity, health beliefs, health communication, and medication adherence among patients with type 2 diabetes in urban Ratchaburi Province. The sample consisted of 92 patients with type 2 diabetes. The research instruments included four-part questionnaires: general information, medication adherence, health beliefs, and health communication. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Spearman Rank Correlation, and Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient.

The study findings revealed the following: The overall scores for medication adherence and health beliefs were at a moderate level (M = 3.15, SD = 0.59; M = 3.44, SD = 0.63, respectively), while the overall score for health communication was at a high level (M = 3.58, SD = 0.51). Accessible information and technology were found to be highly significantly positively correlated with medication adherence (rs = .702, p < .05). Additionally, age (rs = .514), education (rs = .507), health beliefs (rs = .615), and health communication (rs = .689) showed moderate, significantly positive correlations with medication adherence (p < .05).

The guidelines for promoting medication adherence among diabetes patients can be made more effective by developing competencies in information and technology accessibility, modifying health beliefs, and enhancing health communication. These approaches aim to foster sustainable medication adherence behavior.
