Effects of a Disease Prevention Program Based on Motivation Theory on AIDS Prevention Behaviors Among Men Who Have Sex with Men in Pathum Thani Hospital, Pathum Thani Province

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the effects of the program applying disease prevention motivation theory on AIDS prevention behavior among MSM. Pathum Thani Hospital, Pathum Thani Province. The sample group was a group of MSM in Pathum Thani who registered to receive medication to prevent AIDS infection before being exposed to AIDS germs. Pathum Thani Hospital, Pathum Thani Province, numbering 60 people, consisting of 30 MSM in the experimental group and 30 MSM in the control group. The instrument used to collect data was a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and analyzed using paired t-tests and independent t-tests at a statistical significance level of .05.

The results of the research found that: 1) Before the experiment, the caregivers of the experimental group had an average score of the perception of power of caregivers, namely knowledge about caring for bedridden patients with pressure ulcers, that was overall at a moderate level (mean = 9.13, S.D. = 1.63). But after the experiment, there was an average score of the perception of the power of the caregivers, namely knowledge about caring for bedridden patients with pressure ulcers overall. was at a high level (mean = 11.83, S.D. = 1.80), which increased from before the experiment. Statistically significant (p < .05), 2) After the experiment, the MSM group in the experimental group had an average score of AIDS prevention behaviors. Overall it was at a moderate level (mean = 2.58, S.D. = .54). This is higher than the control group, whose overall mean score of AIDS prevention behavior was at a moderate level (mean = 2.20, S.D. = .46) with statistical significance at the .05 level.
