Abstract

This quantitative research aimed to determine the level of nutritional behaviors and identify the factors influencing these behaviors among pregnant adolescents in Health Region 2. The sample comprised 194 pregnant adolescents. The sample size was determined using the statistical power analysis table by Polit and Beck, and the participants were recruited based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria employing a multistage stratified random sampling technique. Data were collected utilizing a structured questionnaire divided into seven sections: sociodemographic characteristics, nutritional behaviors, perceived benefits of nutritional consumption, nutritional self-efficacy, social support for nutrition, nutritional beliefs, and nutritional knowledge among pregnant adolescents. Data analysis was conducted using frequencies, percentages, means, standard deviations, minimums, maximums, and multiple linear regression analysis, with the statistical significance level set at p < 0.05.

The findings revealed that the nutritional behaviors of pregnant adolescents in Health Region 2 were at a moderate level (Mean = 75.63, S.D. = 9.24). The significant factors influencing the nutritional behaviors of pregnant adolescents included the perceived benefits of nutritional consumption, interpersonal influences, and nutritional knowledge. These variables collectively accounted for 59% of the variance (R2 = 0.59, p< .01).

The results of this study serve as foundational data for further investigation into the predictive factors of health-promoting nutritional behaviors among pregnant adolescents. It is recommended that these factors be applied to effectively promote and enhance the dietary practices of pregnant adolescents in the future.
