Abstract

This study aims to investigate and compare the effects of aerobic step training on muscular peak force, muscular endurance, and maximum oxygen uptake in city runners or street runners over an 8-week period. The sample consisted of 30 male city or street runners, aged 35–50 years, residing in Bangkok. They were divided into two groups of 15 participants: an experimental group that performed regular running training combined with aerobic step training for 60 minutes per session, three times per week, for 8 weeks, and a control group that received regular running training only. Before and after the 8-week training period, participants were tested for muscular peak force, muscular endurance, and maximal oxygen uptake. The collected data were analyzed for means and standard deviations. Within-group comparisons were conducted using paired sample t-tests, while between-group comparisons were performed using independent sample t-tests, with statistical significance set at 0.05.  After 8 weeks of training, the experimental group showed a significant increase in muscular peak force, muscular endurance, and maximal oxygen uptake compared to pre-training levels, with statistical significance at p < 0.05. Additionally, the experimental group exhibited significantly greater muscular peak force, muscular endurance, and maximal oxygen uptake than the control group (p < 0.05). Therefore, it can be concluded that an 8-week aerobic step training program is effective in enhancing muscular peak force, muscular endurance, and maximum oxygen uptake in city runners or street runners. This program may serve as an alternative training method for enhancing performance in city and street runners or for other race distances.
