Abstract

The purpose of this study was to study the badminton skills affecting scoring and losing points performed by Thailand national singles female badminton players. The sample group was 3 single female players playing for the Thailand national team, selected by a purposive sampling. They are placed between the 1st – 30th world rankings, and joined in the                3 badminton tournaments: Yonex Thailand Open 2020, Toyota Thailand Open 2020, and Yonex All England Open Badminton Championships 2021, with a total of 17 matches. All of the            3 competitions were video recorded so that the researcher used them to analyze particular skills leading to getting and losing scores by the computer program Kinovea. The statistics used in data analysis were mean, standard deviation, and percentage.

The results showed that the Thailand national singles women performed 3 most frequently found skills bringing great scores: smashing (82.33±39.00 strokes), lifting or lobbing (59.33±18.77 strokes), and netting (35.00±12.77 strokes), respectively. Meanwhile, the skills leading to losing scores were return-smashing (130.33±30.04 strokes), return-netting (98.67±37.23 strokes), and service fault (5.67±6.35 time), respectively. It can be concluded that the players mainly scored from smashing; on the other hand, they often lost scores from return-smashing. Therefore, the results of the research have applicability to coaches so as to appropriately develop athlete's trainings with particular needed skills in the future.
