Effectiveness of Health Education Program for Enhancing Health Literacy on Liver Flukes Preventing among Risk Population

Abstract

    This quasi-experimental research aimed to study the effectiveness of health education program for enhancing health literacy on liver flukes preventing among risk population in Khong Chiam district, Ubon Ratchathani. The sample was the risk population divided into an experimental group of 40 people and a control group of 40 people. The tools in the experiment were health education program for enhancing health literacy on liver flukes preventing among risk population and questionnaires. The implementation covered 12 weeks. The quality of tools was checked by 3 experts and then analyzed by calculating IOC 0.92 and Reliability 0.84. Statistical analysis employed frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation and independent sample t-test.


    The results showed that after the experiment, the experimental group had access to information and health services on liver flukes prevention, knowledge and understanding of health on liver flukes prevention, communication of health information against liver flukes prevention, managing one's own health conditions for liver flukes prevention, media and information literacy on liver flukes prevention, making the right decision to discriminate against liver flukes prevention and preventive behavior of liver flukes disease was higher than the control group, statistically significant at the P-value < .05. It was concluded that the health education program to enhance knowledge on liver flukes prevention can increase the mean score on health literacy about liver flukes prevention in the experimental group. Therefore, this health education program for enhancing health literacy on liver flukes preventing among risk population should be applied to organize health education activities for other groups of people, such as organizing a health education program in service activities in a service facility to provide knowledge providing effective communication to prevent liver flukes disease.
