Main Article Content
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the motivations that influence Thai national water polo players between males and females. The participants, 26 Thai national water polo players, were recruited and chosen to play water polo in the 32nd SEA Games in 2023. As determined by purposive sampling, there were 13 men and 13 women. The researcher's questionnaire, which had a good index of item objective congruence rating of 1.0, was used to gather the data. Data were analyzed by percentages, means, standard deviations, and independent t-tests. The findings of this study demonstrated that the motivation for both male and female Thai national water polo athletes overall is at a high level. In males, there are motivations in terms of love aptitude and interest at the highest level (4.56±0.40), and the least motivation is income and benefits (3.61±0.75). In women, there are motivations in terms of opinions about oneself and related persons at the highest level (4.31±0.60), and the least motivation is for health (4.03±0.62). From comparing the results of the motivation to play water polo of the Thai national athletes between males and females, overall, it was found that there was no difference in motivation to play water polo considering each aspect (t = -0.63, p = 0.39). It was found that male and female Thai national water polo players have different motivations for playing water polo in terms of income and benefits (t = 2.29, p = 0.03). It was found that the average income and benefit motivations of females are higher than those of males. As for the motivation for love, aptitude, and interest (t = 1.17, p = 0.25), opinions about oneself and related persons (t = -0.14, p = 0.89), health (t = -0.42, p = 0.67), honor, and reputation (t = 1.49, p = 0.15), it was found that the average values were not different.
