THE EFFECTS OF A CIRCUIT TRAINING PROGRAM ON MAXIMUM OXYGEN UPTAKE, CARDIOPULMONARY ENDURANCE, AND ENERGY EXPENDITURE OF FEMALE FUTSAL PLAYERS
Main Article Content
Abstract
This study aimed to examine the effects of a circuit training program on maximum oxygen uptake (VO2max), cardiopulmonary endurance, and energy expenditure in female futsal players. The sample included 10 players from Rajabhat Mahasarakham University, aged 18–22 years. Participants completed a four-week circuit training program, three times per week for 50 minutes per session. The program included five stations: mountain climbers, zigzag sprinting, forward-backward sprints, stair running, and cone sliding drills. Research instruments included a custom-designed circuit training program, a 2400-meter run test, VO2max calculated using Cooper’s formula, and energy expenditure estimated using Wilmore et al.’s equation. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and paired sample t-test. The results showed that VO2max significantly increased from 34.97 ± 1.18 to 38.79 ± 2.81 ml/kg/min (p < 0.05), 2400-meter run time decreased from 15.37 ± 0.57 to 13.76 ± 0.99 minutes (p < 0.05), and energy expenditure decreased from 144.94 ± 18.83 to 143.41 ± 18.57 kcal (p < 0.05). A strong positive correlation was found between running time and energy expenditure (r = 0.9998, p = 0.001). In conclusion, the circuit training program is effective in enhancing VO2max, improving cardiopulmonary endurance, and increasing energy utilization efficiency. It serves as a practical method for improving physical performance in female futsal athletes.
