Abstract

This research is a cross-sectional descriptive study aimed at examining early childhood health and factors related to early childhood health in child development centers under Sisaket Municipality. The sample groups consisted of 54 early childhood children and 54 parents. Data was collected during August-September 2023 from parents by applying the PRECEDE-PROCEDE Model through questionnaires. For the children's group, dental health examination forms from the Department of Health, child development assessment forms (DSPM), and nutritional status records using the nutritional status calculation program for weight and height (IMNU - Thai Growth) were used. Data was analyzed using descriptive statistics, including percentage, mean, and standard deviation, and inferential statistics to find relationships using chi-square statistics and Spearman's rank correlation coefficient. The results showed that the majority of children were 2 years old (72.2%), female (53.7%), and studying at Ban Non Samnak Child Development Center (37.0%). The age of parents ranged from 25 to 35 years (64.8%), most parents were female (66.7%), and they had a parent-child relationship (81.5%). The educational level of parents was mostly high school graduation (31.5%), their occupation was mainly farming (rice, garden, field crops) (35.2%), and monthly family income was 5,000-10,000 baht (50.0%). For oral health, dental caries was found in 16.7% of children. For nutritional health, 64.8% of children had normal nutritional status. For developmental health, 88.9% had age-appropriate development. The personal characteristic factors related to oral health included the gender of parents (p-value < 0.001) and income (p-value < 0.001). The personal characteristic factor related to early childhood nutrition was the occupation of parents (p-value < 0.001). The factor related to early childhood developmental health was the supporting factor of creating emotional bonds and providing psychological support (p-value < 0.001).

In conclusion, early childhood health is associated with parental factors, including gender and income that affect oral health, occupation that relates to nutritional health, and emotional bonding factors that correlate with developmental health. Therefore, knowledge and awareness should be provided to parents to encourage their participation in promoting early childhood health, alongside developing childcare centers to meet early childhood development center standards, ensuring children's good health.
