Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study the effects of plyometric training and resistance (elastic) training on leg muscle strength and power in male youth football players from Municipal Secondary School 6 (Nakhon Udon Thani). The sample group, selected using purposive sampling, consisted of 30 male football players from the school. They were divided into three groups of 10 participants each: a plyometric training group, a resistance training group, and a control group. The training program lasted for 4 weeks, with sessions held 3 days per week, 60 minutes per session. Pre-tests and post-tests were conducted to assess leg muscle strength using a leg dynamometer and leg muscle power using the Swift EZE Jump Test. The data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, t-test, and one-way repeated measures ANOVA. LSD (Least Significant Difference) was used for post-hoc comparisons, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05. The results showed that after 4 weeks, both leg muscle strength and power improved significantly at the p < 0.05 level. However, when comparing the mean improvements between the two experimental groups, the resistance training group showed greater increases in both leg muscle strength and power than the plyometric group. In conclusion, resistance training is more effective than plyometric training in improving leg muscle strength and power in male youth football players.
