Abstract

This study aimed to examine and compare the effects of a plyometric drill training program combined with resistance bands on agility and leg muscle strength in futsal athletes at the National Sports University, Phetchabun Campus, between an experimental group and a control group. This research employed a quasi-experimental design. The participants were male futsal athletes at a developmental level, aged between 18 and 23 years, who were selected based on specific inclusion criteria. The average age of the participants was 20.40 ± 1.22 years. All participants had at least one year of competitive experience in Thai futsal. A purposive sampling method was used to select a total of 30 participants, who were then divided into two groups of 15: an experimental group and a control group. The experimental group underwent the designated training program for a period of 8 weeks. Data were collected before and after training using the Illinois Agility Test and the Muscle Strength Test. The mean and standard deviation of the athletes in the sample group were analyzed by comparing the test results after 8 weeks of training between the experimental and control groups using the independent t-test, with a statistical significance level at .05. The results found that 1) prior to training, the experimental group had an average agility score of 16.34 ± 0.96 seconds, while the control group averaged 16.55 ± 0.91 seconds. Regarding leg muscle strength, the experimental group recorded 2.77 ± 0.19 kg/body weight, and the control group recorded 2.71 ± 0.22 kg/body weight. No statistically significant differences were found between the two groups before the training program. And 2) after eight weeks of training, the experimental group demonstrated improved agility of 14.94 ± 0.86 seconds compared to the control group: 15.93 ± 0.81 seconds. For leg muscle strength, the experimental group achieved 2.98 ± 0.06 kg/body weight, whereas the control group achieved 2.83 ± 0.16 kg/body weight. These differences were statistically significant at the .05 level. 


            The results indicate that agility training combined with increased workload intensity can effectively enhance both agility and lower limb muscle strength in futsal players.
