Abstract

This study aimed to compare the effects of circuit training and aerobic training on body composition in a group of healthy male volunteers aged 18-25 years. Using the G*Power program, the sample size was calculated to be 60 participants, who were randomly assigned to two groups: Group 1 underwent circuit training, and Group 2 underwent aerobic training. Both groups trained for 50 minutes per session, three days a week, over a period of 8 weeks. Data were collected before and after the training on body mass index, muscle mass, fat mass, body fat percentage, and bone mass. The data were analyzed using t-tests and the data were analyzed using t-tests to evaluate the differences between groups, and Cohen’s d was used to assess the effect sizes, along with 95% confidence intervals. The results showed that the circuit training group had a statistically significant increase in muscle mass and bone mass (p < 0.05), with effect sizes (Cohen’s d) of 1.29 and 0.59, respectively. In contrast, the aerobic training group had a statistically significant decrease in fat mass and body fat percentage (p < 0.05), with effect sizes (Cohen’s d) of -1.14 and -1.29, respectively. These findings indicate that circuit training is effective in increasing muscle mass and bone mass, while aerobic training is effective in reducing fat mass and body fat percentage. These results can be used to select appropriate training programs based on the objectives of physical fitness development.
