Main Article Content
Abstract
This study employed a pre-experimental research design using a one-group pretest–posttest design to examine and compare students’ exercise leadership skills before and after participating in an exercise leadership promotion program at the Faculty of Sports Science and Health, Thailand National Sports University, Sisaket Campus. The participants were 46 third- and fourth-year students enrolled in the Sports Science and Exercise program during the first semester of the 2025 academic year, consisting of 40 males and 6 females, selected through purposive sampling. The research instruments comprised (1) a 5-day exercise leadership promotion program and (2) a questionnaire measuring exercise leadership skills across five domains: communication, planning, teaching and demonstration, motivation, and personality. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and a paired-samples t-test, with the level of statistical significance set at .05. Prior to participating in the program, students demonstrated an overall moderate level of exercise leadership skills (M = 3.42). After participation, the overall mean score increased to a high level (M = 4.15). When examined by dimension, all aspects showed improvements to a high level, with teaching and demonstration ranked highest, followed by communication, personality, planning, and motivation, respectively. Moreover, comparisons of exercise leadership skills before and after participation revealed statistically significant differences across all dimensions at the .05 level. The findings indicate that the exercise leadership promotion program resulted in a significant improvement in students’ exercise leadership skills. These results may serve as practical guidelines for enhancing teaching and learning, as well as for designing student development activities in higher education institutions specializing in sports and health sciences.
