Nursing care for patients with Ludwig's angina, diabetes, and toxic goiter: A comparative study

This comparative case study aims to analyze in-depth knowledge regarding nursing care for patients with deep pharyngeal inflammation and infection. The case study focuses on two patients with comorbidities: toxic goiter and toxic goiter with diabetes. Data was collected from the patients' medical records.
The study results showed that both case studies received medical care related to the pathology of deep pharyngeal infection, including prevention of airway obstruction, monitoring for hyperthyroidism, managing the infection and monitoring for infectious complications, and pain relief. There were also differences in the medical care, specifically monitoring for blood sugar abnormalities in patients with toxic goiter and diabetes. Under effective communication and the promotion of family involvement, both patients were safe and discharged from the hospital.
Recommendations: Deep pharyngeal infection in patients with toxic goiter and diabetes mellitus, if not properly treated, can lead to respiratory crisis, severe infection, hyperthyroidism, and blood sugar abnormalities. Nurses play a crucial role in comprehensive health assessment, monitoring for complications from comorbidities, determining appropriate nursing activities, tracking treatment outcomes, and planning for effective discharge.
