Abstract

     This quasi-experimental research was to assess the effectiveness of an empowerment program application for self – care behaviors of Type II Diabetic patients including knowledge, self-efficacy and self – care behavior regarding dietary control, exercise, relaxation, take – care of personal hygiene particularly the foot care, takeing medication and keeping appointment. The sample consisted of 70 diabetic patients having fasting blood sugar more than 140 mg/dl, They were selected by specific criteria and a simple random sampling technique. and they were divided into two groups an experimental group of 35 patients was given health education program by the researcher, and a control group of 35 patients was not received the program. Three activities with 3 hours each and once in a month were conducted. The data were collected using the questionnaire and analyzed using percentage, mean standard deviation, Paired t – test and Independent t – test

     The results of the study indicated that, after receiving empowerment Program Application for self – care behaviors, the experimental group showed gains in knowledge, self-efficacy and self – care behavior regarding dietary control, exercise, relaxation taking care of personal hygiene, taking medication and keeping doctor appointment, which were at a good level, from before the experiment and were higher than the control group at of significance at .05 level.
