The Effectiveness of Sending and Receiving Nursing Duty through SBAR In In Patient Department (IPD) Ban Khok Hospital

Abstract

     This quasi–experimental research was aimed to study the effectiveness of shift report management through SBAR model.  The sample of 12 nurses working at In Patient Department (IPD) Ban Khok Hospital. The research instruments were the sending and receiving nursing duty through SBAR communication program and contentment assessment of nurses to the communications program. The content validity index was at 0.82 and coefficient of reliability at 0.84. The data were collected the duration of the sending and receiving nursing duty by a timer clock with data from the first patient until the last patient of the night shift forward to the morning shift. The satisfaction were collected from contentment assessment of nurses after used the program. The data analysis was used for mean, standard deviation and Z test.

     The results showed that the effectiveness of dispatching management on correctness was moderate (M=1.20, S.D.= .33) and completeness of dispatching was high (M=1.45, S.D.= .33). Handling with the SBAR model, the effectiveness of accuracy was high (M=1.65, S.D.= .12), and the completeness of handing was high (M =1.79, S.D.=0.10). The effectiveness of dispatch management before and after handling with the S-bar model. The difference was statistically significant at the .05 level (Z = 3.061). The duration of receiving and delivering nursing care was reduced from 46.33 minutes to only 36.58 minutes. The satisfaction with the program was the highest level. Therefore, the program should be used. Communication in receiving and sending nursing care with SBAR is a guideline to increase the efficiency of receiving and sending nursing care.
