Promotion of health literacy and stroke prevention behaviors in patients with high risk hypertension

Abstract

     The purpose of this research was to study the effects of health literacy promotion and stroke prevention behaviors in high-risk hypertension patients. The sample consisted of 40 hypertensive patients with systolic blood pressure ≥ 180 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure ≥ 110 mmHg, The patient came for treatment at the Emergency and/or Outpatient Department. The tools used in the study were Health literacy and health behaviors There are 3 processes involved: 1) Self-observation process, 2) Decision-making process, and 3) Self-reaction process. Tools used to collect information a knowledge assessment questionnaire about stroke and a questionnaire on health behaviors; Food Consumption, exercise, emotional management, smoking and drinking, Data was analyzed by using number, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The study found that after participating in the activity Most of the subjects had knowledge about cerebrovascular disease with 90% or more correct answers. Physical activity was low (Mean=2.43, 2.12), emotional management was moderate (Mean=2.91), smoking and alcohol consumption were highest (Mean=4.41). At home for 7 days, the systolic blood pressure mean (Mean)=142 and the diastolic blood pressure mean (Mean)=85.

      Promoting health literacy in hypertensive patients, who are at high risk of stroke, to raise awareness and lead to a change in healthy eating behaviors. appropriate exercise regularly Don't drink alcohol and don't smoke. to reduce the risk of stroke that will occur in the future
