Nursing care of a patient with hemothorax and acute respiratory failure : Case study

Abstract

     This study was case study aimed to study nursing care for patients with with hemothorax and acute respiratory failure respiratory failure. A 52-year-old Thai male patient was admitted to the hospital on 25 January 2022 with symptoms of being unable to remember events.
     Results: There was an abrasion on the right side of the chest. From the chest x-ray results, the
diagnosis was Fx rib Rt 4-7th Lt 5-10th, Rt hemothorax. The patient was sent for a brain CT scan. The results were normal. The patient received 0.9%NSS fluid 1000 ml IV 120 ml/hr. An ICD was inserted on the right side. Blood bleeding of 800 cc was observed. Before the examination, the patient had risk an accident, uncomfortable and chest pain. During examination, the patient had tissue depletion of oxygen, a risk of shock from blood loss, and fear and anxiety. After the examination, the patient had more labored breathing, received intubation, had inefficient breathing pattern and had a risk of slippage of the tracheal tube and ICD. There is a treatment plan at the male surgery ward. The nurse sent the information and proceeded with transfer to the ward. The patient received medical care for 25 days and was discharged on 19 February 2022.
