Nursing care of Acute Stroke patient : Two case studies

Abstract

     This study is a case study with two primary objectives. First, to 1) study and compare the history, symptoms, and disease progression, along with treatment and nursing care in patients with acute stroke through a comparative analysis of two case studies. Second, to 2) develop a model for imparting knowledge on self-management to prevent stroke in patients with diabetes and high blood pressure, targeting specifically those receiving treatment at the emergency department of a hospital. The study focused on patients diagnosed with a stroke at the emergency department, with the results revealing the following:

     Case Study 1: A Thai female patient, aged 60, presented with crucial symptoms such as lethargy and loss of consciousness occurring 30 minutes prior. The underlying disease was high blood pressure, accompanied by convulsions, with an E3V3M5 assessment. The oxygen level in the body was below normal. Following the Stroke fast track guidelines, the doctor diagnosed a possibility of Hemorrhagic stroke, and the patient was intubated. She was then transferred to KhonKaen Hospital for a prompt CT scan to facilitate an accurate diagnosis and treatment.

     Case Study 2: A Thai female patient, aged 65, exhibited significant symptoms of a crooked mouth and weakness in the left arm, occurring 20 minutes prior. The underlying diseases were high blood pressure and high blood fat, with no convulsions and an E4V5M6 assessment. The oxygen levels in the body were normal. Following the Stroke Fast Track guidelines, the doctor diagnosed the case and sent the patient to KhonKaen Hospital for a rapid CT scan to ensure timely and appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
