The Development of Guideline for Surveillance of Urinary Tract Infection in Patients with Urinary Catheter in Ward Thauthen Hospital Nakhon Phanom Province

This action research aimed to develop and evaluate the development of guideline for surveillance of urinary tract infection in patients with urinary catheter in ward of Thauthen hospital, Nakhon Phanom province. The study duration spanned from October 2566 to January 2567. Sample size were 20 catheterized patients voluntarily participating in the program. The research tools included a questionnaire to gather opinions from healthcare professionals and a record-keeping form for monitoring urinary tract infection (UTI/ CAUTI) surveillance. Statistics used for data analysis included frequency, percentage, mean (), and standard deviation (S.D.). Comparative analysis of the average scores for the effectiveness of the implemented urinary tract infection surveillance practices post-development was conducted. The comparison was made against the criterion of 2.40 points or 80.00%, was achieved using the t-test (one-sample). Additionally, qualitative data analysis was performed through content analysis.
The research found that: 1. Procedural Results 1.1 The guideline for surveillance of urinary tract infection in patients with urinary catheter was successfully developed, making it easy to implement the CAUTI BUNDLE. 1.2 The guideline for surveillance of urinary tract infection in patients with urinary catheter (CA-UTI) was implemented beyond 48 hours and within 2 days after catheter removal. 2. Outcome Results 2.1 Following the development guideline for surveillance of urinary tract infection in patients with urinary catheter, it was observed that there were no instances of infection from catheterization, no occurrences of complications, no referrals, and no incidents of mortality. 2.2 The assessment of the effectiveness of guideline for surveillance of urinary tract infection in patients with urinary catheter revealed a high level of performance, with average score of 89.47 ( = 2.84, S.D. = 0.29). 2.3 After the development, the average efficiency score for guideline for surveillance of urinary tract infection in patients with urinary catheter was significantly higher than the established criterion (p< 0.01).
