Fall Prevention among the Elderly Living in a Community : The Nursing Role in Home Health Care

Abstract

     This research is a quasi-experimental research. The objective was to study the results of the fall prevention program for the elderly and compare the results of the fall prevention program for the elderly before and after receiving the fall prevention program for the elderly in the community, Non Samran Subdistrict, Mueang District. Chaiyaphum Province The sample group consisted of elderly people in Non Samran Subdistrict, Mueang District, Chaiyaphum Province. A purposive random sample of 60 people was divided into an experimental group and a control group of 30 people each. The study was conducted between January and March 2023. The tools used in the experiment were is a fall prevention program for elderly people in the community using the concept of the role of nurses combined with home health care. Consists of joint planning nursing practice Teaching with video media Consulting Home monitoring and individual monitoring and the use of media about role models who have fallen in the elderly. prompting Various problems and obstacles were asked by the researcher and a questionnaire on perceptions regarding fall prevention was completed. and a questionnaire on behavior to prevent falls in the elderly. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired sample t-test and independent t-test.
     The results of the study found that after participating in the program The experimental group had awareness about preventing falls in the elderly in the community. The overall level was at a high level (Mean=3.25, S.D.=0.10) and the mean behavior for preventing falls among the elderly in the community was overall at a high level (Mean=4.14, S.D.=0.32). The control group received Know about preventing falls in the elderly in the community as a whole. It is at a moderate level (Mean=2.83, S.D.=0.11) and has the average behavior for preventing falls in the elderly in the community as a whole. It is at a moderate level (Mean=2.83, S.D.=0.12) when comparing perceptions about fall prevention and fall prevention behavior among elderly people in the community. It was found that the overall perception of fall prevention between the experimental group (Mean=3.25, S.D.=0.10) and the control group (Mean=2.83, S.D.=0.11) was significantly different.
