Nursing Care of End-stage Chronic Kidney Disease Patient with Psoriasis Treated with Phototherapy: A Case Study

Abstract

     This study was case study aimed to study the nursing care of end-stage chronic kidney disease (CKD) patients with psoriasis treated with phototherapy. A 56-year-old Thai male patient presented to the hospital on February 13, 2567, with significant symptoms including thick rash, widespread skin peeling, itching for one week prior to admission. He had comorbidities of hypertension and diabetes.
     Study Results: Pre-examination period was characterized by general discomfort, fever, itching, joint pain, and increased anxiety towards illness and changing appearance. Examination revealed elevated blood sugar levels, decreased kidney function, and skin infections. Lack of knowledge and understanding about phototherapy treatment was observed. Post-examination, the patient experienced treatment-related side effects and a profound sense of diminished self-worth. Nursing interventions focused on alleviating skin discomfort, providing education, guidance on phototherapy treatment, monitoring post-treatment symptoms, and psychological support. The patient received NB-UVB phototherapy twice a week for a total of 20 sessions. Response to treatment was positive with reduced side effects and improved adaptation to illness.
