The efficacy of triage training program for registered nurse in the outpatient department at Wanonniwat Hospital, Sakon Nakhon Province.

This quasi experimental research aimed to study the efficacy of triage training program for registered nurse in the outpatient department at Wanonniwat Hospital, Sakon Nakhon Province. Sample size were the patient who receiving services from the outpatient department during the month of February to April 2024. The instrument of data collection included; the questionnaires of demographic, knowledge, triage skill, outcome of triage record, and deteriorating patients during waiting doctor record. The quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation. The comparative nonparametric statistics used Wilcoxon signed rank test.
The results showed; mainly of registered nursed were female (100.00%), age group between 30-99 years (58.83%), married couple status (47.06%), graduated with bachelor’s degree (100.00%), position of government service (82.35%), and worked in the outpatient department more than 10 year (41.18%). The comparative statistic found; mean score of knowledge and triage skill after receiving the triage training program higher than before, significant at the level of 0.01 (Z=-3.097, p=0.002; Z=-3.558, p<0.001). Before receiving the triage training program found 92.83% of triage correct and 7.17% of incorrect, but after receiving triage training program found triage correct rate was 96.04% and triage incorrect rate was decreased to 3.96. However, before receiving the triage training program found the deteriorating patient rate was 0.82%, and after receiving the triage training program found 0.41%.
