Development of a surveillance model for warning signs of a crisis in patients with community-acquired pneumonia. Female inpatient department, Khao Wong Hospital, Kalasin Province.

Abstract

     Action research to develop and evaluate the development of a critical warning signal monitoring model for community-acquired pneumonia patients in the female inpatient department of Khao Wong Hospital, Kalasin Province, was conducted between October 2023 and March 2024. The study involved 3 processes: (1) development process, (2) model implementation process, and (3) model evaluation process. The sample group consisted of 30 community-acquired pneumonia patients and 13 nurses working in the female inpatient department of Khao Wong Hospital. The samples were purposively selected. The instruments used were a critical warning signal monitoring model for community-acquired pneumonia patients, a warning signal recording form (MEWS Scores), a SBAR physician report form, and a questionnaire on the feasibility and satisfaction of professional nurses with the model. Qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, including means, percentages, and standard deviations. The t-test was used, and qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis.
     The results of the study found that community-acquired pneumonia patients after using the model had a reduced incidence of bloodstream infections, organ failure, and no deaths. which was significantly different from the control group before using the model at a statistical level of .05. Professional nurses had opinions on the feasibility (M = 3.79, SD = .33) and satisfaction with using the guidelines (M = 3.73, SD = .38) at a high level.
