The Comparison of Case studies: Nursing care of Low Birth Weight Premature Infants with Respiratory Distress

This study aimed to compare nursing care of premature infants with low birth weight and respiratory distress with the concept of family-centered nursing and provide nursing guidelines for preterm neonatal low-birth-weight infants through a comparative study of two cases.
The results: Both case studies involved premature female infants and low birth weight. The mother has gestational diabetes mellitus. First case study: Infant GA 30+3 wks. By U/S BW 1,505 gm. Apgar score 9, 9, 9. Newborn tachypnea retraction and underwent tracheal intubation because of respiratory distress with sepsis and premature rupture of membranes (49 hr.): infant hypoglycemia, hypothermia, and neonatal jaundice complications. The doctor allowed the infant to return home after his problem was solved, weighing 2,010 gm. The length of stay in the hospital: 47 days. Second case study: Infant GA 30+3 wks. By LMP BW 1,650 gm Apgar scored 8, 9, 8 when estimating baby weight from gestational age should be 2,400 gm, and Ballard scored 17 points, equal to gestational age GA 30+ weeks indicating an infant weighing. An infant is disproportionate to its small gestational age (SGA). The newborn had respiratory distress, tachypnea, nasal flaring, and retraction. Expiratory grunting acrocyanosis underwent tracheal intubation and bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Hypothermia Hypoglycemia Polycythemia thrombocytopenia and neonatal jaundice complications. The doctor allowed the infant to return home after his problem was solved, weighing 2,220 gm.
