Care Needs of Older Adults in Mueang Ubon Ratchathani District: A Survey Study.

This survey research aims to study family care characteristics and care needs of the elderly in Mueang Ubon Ratchathani District. The sample consisted of 385 elderly individuals selected through multi-stage random sampling. Data were collected using a structured interview form, which was validated for content validity by three experts (IOC = .67-1.00) and tested for reliability using Cronbach's alpha coefficient (.78 - .83). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.
Results showed that the majority of elderly were female (68.83%) with an average age of 68.99 years (SD = 7.85). Regarding family care characteristics, most elderly received food from their children or family members (91.69%), were asked about their health when ill (95.58%), were respected by family members (95.32%), and received monthly financial support from family (91.69%). Only a small percentage of elderly organized household items themselves (14.55%). Concerning care needs, most elderly desired assistance with food (94.55%), care when ill (98.18%), family notification when sick (93.51%), obedience from children (96.10%), and help with necessary belongings (96.62%). The least reported need was for children to recognize their value (25.25%).
