Abstract

     This research and development (R&D) aims to develop a patient classification model and to study the effectiveness of using the patient classification model at Yang Sisurat Hospital, Maha Sarakham Province. The sample group consisted of 16 personnel working in outpatient and emergency departments, namely 13 professional nurses and three emergency medical personnel, and medical records of patients who received services at the outpatient and emergency departments between May and August 2023, totaling 496 files. The research tools consisted of the Department of Medical Services' MOPH ED Triage System, a medical record data recording form, a patient triage assessment form by service personnel, and a patient triage quality assessment form. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and content analysis with conclusions.
     The results found that there was a development of specific qualifications, responsibilities, and assignment of duties, a set of operational guidelines, and a manual and guidelines for improving patient screening criteria. After developing the patient classification system, it was found that the patient classification was correct, and the monthly classification results from May - August 2023, the accuracy tended to increase by 61.90%, 64.18%, 73.28%, and 87.94%, respectively. The group with patient classification results lower than the specified criteria (Under triage) tended to decrease. The study's results on the time taken for patients to be examined by severity type showed that the rate of being examined tended to increase.
