Comparison of Clinical Outcomes in End-Stage Renal Disease Patients Undergoing Automated Peritoneal Dialysis and Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis at Nong Bua Lamphu Hospital.

Abstract

     This study was retrospective survey study aimed to compare the clinical outcomes of patients with end-stage renal disease who underwent peritoneal dialysis and patients with end-stage renal disease who underwent automated dialysis. The study was conducted using the electronic database at Nong Bua Lamphu Hospital. The patients were divided into 2 groups: Group 1: 102 patients with end-stage renal disease who underwent continuous peritoneal dialysis. The data were collected retrospectively from May 2023 to December 2023, totaling 78 patients. The second group: 24 patients with end-stage renal disease who underwent continuous peritoneal dialysis. The data were analyzed by comparing frequencies, percentages, means, and standard deviations. The clinical outcomes were measured using Risk difference regression and Mean difference regression.
     Results: A total of 102 ESRD patients with age ranges from 17-74 years were included. Gender, age, BMI, blood pressure, comorbidities, occupation, education, caregiver, medication, and associated diseases were adjusted in the analysis. The results revealed that patients in the APD group exhibited increased average laboratory test results in Hemoglobin, Albumin, Sodium, Phosphorus, while experiencing decreased average values for Blood urea nitrogen, Creatinine, Potassium, Sodium bicarbonate, and Calcium, all without statistically significant. However, the significant improvement was observed in rate of sepsis which was reduced by 19% (95% CI: -0.32,-0.08,p=0.001); mean hematocrits reduced by 3.09% (95% CI: 0.42, 5.75, p=0.023), and longer duration in resting time by 4.26 hours (95% CI: 3.79, 4.73, p<0.001) compared to the group receiving CAPD.
