Development of Innovation in Sterile Ice Preparation for Organ Preservation Surgery Using the “Smart Nurse Smart Bag “Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) Bag in Surgical Nursing at Khon Kaen Hospital.

This study is an Action Research project aimed at developing innovations for preparing sterile ice at Khon Kaen Hospital. The sample group consisted of 30 professional nurses working in the operating rooms, responsible for preparing sterile ice for organ transplants. The innovation was developed using the P-A-O-R (Planning, Action,Observation, Reflection) process based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model. The steps included: 1.) Planning: Analyze the issues encountered during the operation. 2.)Action: Design the innovation based on the identified problems and develop the innovation. 3.)Observation: Implement the developed innovation in surgeries during 2023 and monitor the outcomes. 4.)Reflection: Evaluate the results, analyze obstacles encountered, and adjust the development plan accordingly. The tools used in the study included the developed innovation, general data recording forms, and innovation evaluation forms. Quantitative data were analyzed using frequency and percentage statistics, while qualitative data were analyzed using content analysis.
The results of the development showed: The outcomes of using the innovation revealed that 100% of prepared organs were free from foreign object injuries caused by the sterile ice preparation process, 100% of ice samples were free from large contaminants (larger than 1 millimeter), and 100% were free from small contaminants (smaller than 1 millimeter). Additionally, the number of patients correctly following pre-operative instructions increased, and healthcare personnel were highest satisfied with the innovation.
