Effect of Social Support Program to Mental Health and Quality of Life among the Elderly, Sisatchanalai Municipality, Sisatchanalai District, Sukhothai Province

A quasi-experimental two-group pretest-posttest study was conducted to examine the effects of a social support program to mental health and quality of life among the elderly, Si Satchanalai Municipality, Si Satchanalai District, Sukhothai Province. The sample consisted of 70 elderly participants, divided into an experimental group and a control group, with 35 participants in each group. The intervention lasted 12 weeks. Data were collected from questionnaires. Data were analyzed by content analysis, frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and Dependent t – test.
The experimental results showed that the mean mental health scores of the experimental group receiving the social support program before and after the intervention were 46.828 and 53.057, respectively, with a statistically significant difference (p<.001). The mean mental health scores of the experimental group and the control group, which received standard nursing care, after the intervention were 53.057 and 47.942 respectively, also showing a statistically significant difference (p<.001). The mean quality of life scores of the experimental group before and after the intervention were 68.085 and 102.514, respectively, with a statistically significant difference (p<.001). The mean quality of life scores of the experimental group and the control group after the intervention were 102.514 and 63.971, respectively, with a statistically significant difference (p<.001).
