Nursing Care for People Living with HIV/AIDS Infected with Metabolic Syndrome: Two Case Studies.

Abstract

     This study was case study aimed to study and compare the nursing process of 2 HIV/AIDS patients with metabolic syndrome who received services at the outpatient department of Nong Hi Hospital using Gordon's Health Model Theory. This is a case study of 2 patients to compare HIV/AIDS infected with metabolic syndrome who came to the outpatient department of Nong Hi Hospital, Roi Et Province. The study was conducted in case study 1 on June 2024 and in case study 2 on August 2024. Data were collected using interviews, observations, and medical records. The patients' health was assessed holistically, both physically and mentally, using Gordon's nursing theory as a conceptual framework for the study. Nursing diagnoses were determined along with nursing concepts applied in the patient's nursing process.
     Results: Comparing the two patients, it was found that they both had similar symptoms when they entered the service system. The patients were anxious about their illness, fearing that their secret would be revealed and that society would shun them, and they were worried about their metabolic syndrome increasing. The differences are improper eating behavior, drinking alcohol, smoking, eating sweet foods, and managing stress. Both patients have physical and mental illnesses and need help. Therefore, nurses play a role in promoting self-care ability. In addition to providing knowledge, advice, counseling, and encouragement when patients encounter problems, nurses are also coordinators of cooperation among health personnel by participating in decision-making and respecting patients’ rights for good health and continuous treatment. The results of this study can be used to develop team potential and provide guidelines for the assessment and care of patients with metabolic syndrome and complications from other diseases.
