Results of the program to develop the elderly of caregivers with long-term dependency, Mueang District Chachoengsao Province.

The purpose of this quasi-experimental research was to develop and to examine an empowerment program using Gibson’s concept of empowerment for the elderly dependent in Mueang District, Chachoengsao Province. The participants consisted of 70 elderly dependent people, who were simple random sampling to one of two groups (35 per group). The research design was pre-test and post-test control group design. The experimental group empowerment used Gibson’s concept of empowerment program and the control group used the standard long-term care guidelines for elderly people. Instruments included 1) the empowerment program, a program consisting of 5 activities lasting over 6 weeks; 2) an interview form. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics and analytic statistics, including a paired t test and an independent t-test.
Results showed that the experimental groups presented significant increases in total mean scores of perceived empowerments (PE) and health care behaviors (HCB) after 6 weeks of the training program. Moreover, the mean scores for PE and HCB in the experimental group were significantly higher than in the control group after 6 weeks of training program
