Nursing care for premature labor and newborns with oxygen deficiency : case study

Abstract

     This  case study aimed to study the guidelines for caring for premature births and the development of a transfer system for newborns with oxygen deficiency. Premature birth is a major factor causing infants with disabilities and an increased mortality rate in newborns. The study selected premature births and collected data by interviewing the mothers, collecting medical records, analyzing the case collection with a multidisciplinary team, consulting with obstetricians and pediatricians about treatment guidelines, analyzing according to the Gordon Health Plan framework, and performing nursing operations using nursing processes and delivery room nursing standards, along with Orem's self-care theory.

     The results of this study found that while hospitalized to prevent labor, the mother had Non Reassuring Fetal heartrate. The obstetrician considered immediate Cesarean section. After delivery, there were no complications. The mother was hospitalized for observation for 3 days and discharged home. During delivery, the infant had oxygen deficiency (Birth asphyxia), required critical care, and was transferred to the neonatal ward. The mother received treatment by sending the infant for laboratory examination, giving fluids, and antibiotics. She had Hypovolumic shock, Hypothermia, Anernia, and Pneuriomediastinum. The mother was hospitalized for 7 days and discharged the infant home.
