Development of Model for Promoting Practice to Prevent Tuberculosis Infection among Outpatient Department Nursing Personnel, Phon Charoen Hospital

Abstract

     This research aimed to develop and evaluate a model aimed at promoting TB infection prevention practices among outpatient department nursing staff. This action research employed a collaborative quality improvement approach. The participants consisted of two groups: a development team of 6 nurses and an implementation team of 28 nurses. Research instruments included a quality improvement plan, a staff opinion questionnaire, and an observational checklist of practice behaviors. Quantitative data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired t-tests, while qualitative data were examined through content analysis.

     Results: development of model for promoting practice to prevent tuberculosis infection among outpatient department nursing personnel comprised 9 key activities: 1) Conducting practical workshops on TB infection prevention procedures.2) Providing operational manuals.3) Offering knowledge review sessions.4) Conducting evaluations and providing feedback.5)Using posters as reminders.6) Supplying respiratory protective equipment for staff.7) Providing TB infection control equipment for patients.8) Promoting hand hygiene campaigns.9) Educating patients and their families. Following the implementation of the model, the proportion of staff performing procedures correctly rose from 69.08% to 97.1%. The average performance score after implementation was significantly higher than before, with significance at p = 0.05.
