Abstract

This quasi-experimental study aimed to investigate the effect of a health literacy promotion program on self-care behavior and blood pressure levels of hypertensive patients with uncontrolled hypertension. The study was conducted from October 2024 to September 2025. The sample consisted of 62 patients with uncontrolled hypertension, divided into experimental (n=31) and control groups (n=31). Research instruments included a 10-week health literacy promotion program covering 5 core components, health literacy assessment scale, self-care behavior assessment scale, and clinical data recording form. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired t-test, and independent t-test. Results showed significant effectiveness of the health literacy promotion program.

The experimental group demonstrated increased health literacy from moderate level (103.2±18.6 points) to high level (151.7±12.4 points), improved self-care behavior from moderate level (2.95±0.58 points) to high level (4.17±0.43 points), and increased blood pressure control rate from 0% to 87.1%, all statistically significant at p<.001. Between-group comparisons revealed that the experimental group had significantly higher mean scores than the control group in all variables. Participants expressed high satisfaction with the program (4.42±0.37 points).
