Transoral Endoscopic Thyroiddectomy Vestibular Approach.

Abstract

     This study is a nursing case study of a 19-year-old Thai female patient who underwent a transoral endoscopic thyroidectomy via the vestibular approach (TOETVA) due to a palpable mass on the left side of her neck. The patient was diagnosed with a left thyroid nodule, and subsequent ultrasound and fine needle aspiration revealed a benign nodule. Nursing care encompassed the preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases, focusing on anxiety reduction, prevention of complications, infection control, monitoring of vital signs, hypothermia, hypocalcemia, and promoting the patient’s and family’s understanding of postoperative self-care.

     The results of nursing care showed that the patient recovered well, with no significant complications related to surgery or anesthesia. Pain levels gradually decreased, intraoral wounds healed properly without infection, and both the patient and her family demonstrated appropriate self-care behaviors before discharge. The TOETVA procedure helped minimize tissue injury, reduce postoperative pain, promote faster recovery, and avoid external scarring. Nurses play a crucial role in providing information, continuous care, and monitoring for complications to ensure patient safety and achieve optimal nursing outcomes.
