Nursing Care for Postpartum Mothers with Congenital Heart Disease in Family Planning: A Case Study.

Abstract

     This study aimed to study the nursing care for postpartum mothers with congenital heart disease in family planning in a case study.  The data collection instrument was a form for recording information from patient medical records regarding history taking, physical examination, laboratory tests, and other special test results. The data were analyzed to determine nursing diagnoses using Gordon and Orem's models, and to plan nursing actions using the nursing process, and proceed with monitoring and evaluating the nursing operations according to the plan.

     The study results found that the postpartum mother's surgical wound did not ooze secretions, the area around the wound was not inflamed or red, there was no lochia, and there was no foul odor. After receiving advice on family planning, it was found that the postpartum mothers could properly manage their own care and breastfeeding, plan their own diet, weight control action plan, and avoid inappropriate activities. The postpartum mothers had knowledge and understanding of IUD insertion, could practice IUD insertion, and check for abnormalities in the inserted IUD correctly.
